A Kahoot! alternative with polls and Q&A: how to move your quizzes to QuizX
If you want a Kahoot! alternative that also runs live polls, anonymous Q&A and word clouds, you can bring your existing quizzes into QuizX by importing a Kahoot! .xlsx file. The import shows you what it found before adding anything, and your players still join from their phone browser with a game PIN.
Why people look for a Kahoot! alternative
Most people who search for an alternative already have a stack of quizzes they like. They don't want to retype them. They want the same quick, competitive game in class or at work, plus a few extra formats for the moments when a quiz isn't the right tool.
QuizX was built around that idea. One session can mix quiz questions, polls, a Q&A block and a word cloud, and everyone stays on one PIN for the whole session. You move from one part to the next with Next block →, so nobody has to rejoin.
What moves over when you import
The importer reads the files you can get out of Kahoot! and turns them into QuizX questions. Here is what it accepts:
- The Kahoot! .xlsx creation template (the spreadsheet you fill in to build a kahoot).
- A Kahoot! results report in .xlsx format.
- Slido poll exports, if you also used Slido.
- The QuizX CSV template or a plain CSV file.
Before anything is added, QuizX shows a summary: how many questions it found and how many rows it skipped. Nothing lands in your quiz until you confirm.
A few things don't come along. Images are not imported, so questions arrive without pictures and you'll want to add them back in the editor. Rows with fewer than two answers are skipped, and question types QuizX can't map are skipped and listed in the summary.
How to import your quiz, step by step
- Create a free account at QuizX and open your dashboard.
- Click + Create and choose New quiz.
- In How would you like to start?, pick Import from Kahoot / Slido.
- Upload your .xlsx or .csv file.
- Read the summary of questions found and rows skipped, then confirm to add them.
- Review each question in the editor: set the Time limit and Points, and re-add any images you need.
- Click Launch, then ▶ Launch session. The PIN is generated for you.
Already inside a quiz? The import icon in the editor does the same job, so you can pull more questions into an existing quiz. The editor saves automatically as you work.

The free plan needs no card. Bring one quiz over and see how it looks.
What's different once you're in QuizX
The game itself will feel familiar. Players join at quizx.ro/play with a 6-digit PIN or by scanning the QR code on the 📺 Session screen. They don't need an account or an app. Points reward correct answers and speed, a leaderboard can appear after each question, and the game ends on a top-3 podium.
The bigger change is what you can add around the quiz:
- Polls: a Poll is a question type inside a quiz. Results show up live on the session screen as people vote, with no right or wrong answer.
- Anonymous Q&A: participants send questions and vote on each other's, with optional moderation before anything appears on screen.
- Word cloud: each person submits a few words, and the cloud builds live.
- Test mode: players see no correctness and no leaderboard, and you get a grade on a 0–10 or 0–100 scale.
There are also more question types to choose from: Single choice, Multiple choice, True / False, Type answer, Slider, Arrange, Matching, Pinpoint and Poll. Which ones you get depends on your plan. See pricing for the details.
