How to run a live poll during a presentation (and add Q&A on the same PIN)

How polls work in QuizX

In QuizX, a poll isn't a separate kind of item. It's a question type called Poll that lives inside a quiz. A Poll question has answer options but no correct answer, so nobody wins or loses points for their choice.

That gives you some flexibility. A quiz can be made only of polls, which works well for a talk or a meeting. Or you can drop a couple of polls between regular quiz questions to check the mood of the room.

As people vote, the results appear live on the session screen. Your audience sees the bars move, which tends to get people talking.

Step by step: build your poll

1. In your dashboard, click ＋ Create and choose New quiz.
2. Pick Blank quiz in How would you like to start?
3. Click ＋ Add question and set the question type to Poll.
4. Write a short question and two to five clear options.
5. Set a Time limit that gives people enough time to read and decide.
6. Repeat for each moment in your talk where you want audience input.

The editor saves automatically, so you can build the polls over a few days while you finish your slides.

Mix polls with Q&A and a word cloud

Most presentations need more than one kind of interaction. A typical flow might be a warm-up poll, a word cloud halfway through, and an open Q&A at the end.

QuizX lets one session combine quiz questions, polls, a Q&A block and a word cloud. Everyone stays on one PIN for the whole session. When you're ready for the next part, click Next block →. To close the current part, click End the block.

• Poll: quick, structured choices with live results.
• Word cloud: each person submits 1 to 10 words, and you can switch on a profanity filter or remove a word yourself.
• Q&A: people send questions and vote on each other's, so the most popular ones rise to the top. Anonymous by default, with optional moderation.

Running the poll live

1. Click Launch, then ▶ Launch session. A game PIN is generated automatically.
2. Click 📺 Session screen and move that window to the projector or shared screen. It shows quizx.ro/play, the PIN and a QR code.
3. Leave the join screen up while you introduce yourself, so people can scan the QR code or type the PIN.
4. Click ▶ Start game when you reach your first poll.
5. Watch the results come in, comment on them, then move on.

Your audience doesn't need an account or an app. They join in the phone browser. Late arrivals can still join while the session runs, so people slipping in after the start aren't left out.

If the session contains only Q&A or a word cloud, people skip the name step and are labeled automatically as Participant 1, Participant 2 and so on. When polls are part of a quiz, people type a short name to join.

Tips for polls that people actually answer

• Ask one thing per poll. "Which topic should we go deeper on?" works better than a question with two parts.
• Keep options short. People read them on a phone, often while listening to you.
• Use the result. If most people pick option B, talk about B. Ignoring the vote makes the next poll less popular.
• Open with an easy one. A light first poll gets everyone connected before the important questions.
• Don't overdo it. A few well-placed polls keep a talk lively. A poll on every slide gets tiring.

After the presentation

Poll results can be exported to CSV after the session, which is handy if you want to share them with organizers or compare groups. The session is also saved in your account history.

If you previously ran polls in Slido, you can bring them over: choose Import from Kahoot / Slido in the start chooser and upload your Slido poll export. Open-text, rating and ranking polls are skipped, and the summary tells you what was left out.
